Berlin-based architect Jürgen Mayer H. designed the centre of the new district of Scharnhauser Park as a disturbing and solitary building. Its compact layout follows a complex transition from an orthogonal into an inclined spatial system and raises questions about the relationship between solidity and structure. The interior, where materiality has been reduced to the minimum, is set apart from the lachrymose coffee-browns of the façade. Yet the building is conceived as a public space throughout, with a "communication zone" flowing around its facilities for meetings and chance encounters.
