The Fellner House had to meet clear conditions: the local authorities and council stipulated that no flat roof would be permitted and that the new structure must be in tune with “Bavarian building culture”. The client asked for the building to be constructed within budget and in a short time, also wishing for old and new to be clearly expressed and the existing fabric to be treated with sensitivity. Following these parameters, the architects have created an extension that reacts in an unusual way to the restrictions imposed. What it leaves is irritation, as much among the guardians of the village scene as among style purists.
